I always thought Cincinnati Fire Dept was one of the better fire based EMS systems, but apparently the new fire chief wants to do better.
It’s tough to do when negotiating budget years is like a minefield, and with city councils and managers everywhere cutting what they can do make ends meet with essential services getting cut. Cincinnati has dropped to the lowest level of staffing in years and unfortunately it might get worse.
Interesting to note too that the new fire chief there spent his entire career with the Columbus Fire Dept, a fire based system that gives Memphis a run for it’s money in terms of response and deployment, experience of personnel and medical aggressiveness. It’s refreshing and interesting to see that a city hire an EMS oriented chief to run the whole department. Perhaps this could be a view of what an EMS department that fights fire is supposed to be like.
